About robin baker

With 30 years’ experience and representing the fourth generation of a musical family, pianist Robin Baker enjoys a busy freelance career as piano accompanist, piano teacher, performance coach and  chamber musician. Robin coaches students for scholarship auditions, competitions and exams. She’s passionate about working with the individual strengths of each student so they can learn and perform at their best, and therefore strengthen their self-esteem and confidence.

Robin has recorded for the ABC and BBC, appeared as guest artist at ANAM, and is a staff pianist at the University of Melbourne and Monash University.

She studied at the Royal Northern College of Music in the UK for her music degree and post-graduate studies and spent many years overseas performing in concerts in Britain and Europe. Throughout her whole career Robin has performed in piano trios, quartets and quintets, including touring Asia with the Szigeti Trio. She has been a tutor of chamber music at the University of Melbourne and continues to coach chamber groups in performance and rehearsal techniques in her studio. She accompanies regularly for the Suzuki Association. Robin was an organiser of the annual Piano Accompanist Summer School and has been a regular tutor at the event. She has given masterclasses in both the U.K and Melbourne.

Robin specialises in giving students clear practice strategies  that produce their best results.  These fast track learning techniques greatly increase confidence  and security in the student's playing straight away!    I am a strong believer that everyone should be able to have a life of music.
